	OOblatos de São Bento Who is an Oblate of St. Benedict? Quem é um dos Oblatos de São Bento? The Oblates of St. Benedict are practicing Catholics, men and women of goodwill, who associate themselves with a Benedictine monastery in order to share in the spiritual and material good of the community. They do not live in the monastery, nor do they take vows, but they carry out the usual duties of their particular state of life, wherever they are, continuing whatever profession or occupation in life they have, caring for their family and the like. Why Become An Oblate? Por que se tornar um oblato? St. Benedict lived in the 6 th century.São Bento viveu no século 6. He and his twin sister, St. Scholastica, were born and raised in Italy, not far from Rome, and received some of their early training in Rome. So they offered themselves to God, became Oblates of a monastery or convent and promised to regulate their lives according to the spirit of the Rule of St. Benedict, adapting the teaching of the Rule to their life in the world, in the family circle, in the places of work, in their civic and social activities. Today there are thousands of Oblates in all parts of the world, praying and working in spiritual union with the monks and nuns of our Benedictine communities and strength and inspiration from the Benedictine way of life. Oblates bind themselves by a PROMISE to live according to the monastic principles of OBEDIENCE, STABILITY and REFORMATION of their lives. Benedictine monks and nuns, on the other hand, bind themselves by a solemn vow to practice these principles. Being thus affiliated with a monastery or convent without actually living in the community, Oblates share in the daily prayers and good works of the monks and nuns. They return the favor by praying some parts of the Liturgy of the Hours (divine Office) each day as they find time. Being an oblate of St. Benedict something more than just joining another organization of the Church.
